Our Story

Rooted in Aberdeen,
Built Around People

Sampan Cove began with a simple idea: that older adults deserve a home that feels genuinely like one — close to the neighbourhood they know, surrounded by faces they trust.

Who We Are

A Home by the Harbour

Sampan Cove opened in Aberdeen because this corner of Hong Kong carries a particular character — the harbour, the wet market, the quiet lanes behind Ap Lei Chau Main Street. For many older residents, this area is where decades of daily life have taken place. Staying close to that history is not a small thing.

We are a small residential home. That smallness is deliberate. When the number of residents is modest, every person is known well. Staff notice when someone seems quieter than usual. They remember that one resident prefers plain congee in the morning and another likes her room curtains left half open.

Our mission is steady and straightforward: to make each day feel comfortable, connected, and worth getting up for.

Founded in Aberdeen

Sampan Cove was established with the aim of offering community-centred residential care at a scale where personal attention is genuinely possible — not just promised.

Our Mission

To create a place where older adults feel at ease, engaged, and part of a community — in a home that respects their independence while offering real, day-to-day support.

Our Values

Warmth, honesty, and quiet consistency. We do not make broad claims. We focus on doing the everyday things well — meals, conversation, cleanliness, and presence.

How We Work

Our Standards and Commitments

Resident Safety First

The home is structured so that care companions are always within easy reach. Regular checks, clear routines, and a well-maintained physical environment all contribute to a setting where residents feel safe.

Food Quality and Sourcing

Ingredients are sourced daily from Aberdeen Market. Meals are prepared fresh, adjusted for dietary needs where necessary, and served at a pace that suits the residents rather than a kitchen schedule.

Cleanliness and Comfort

Rooms are tidied daily and linens changed regularly. Shared spaces are cleaned throughout the day. The physical environment is modest but always kept in good order.

Open Communication with Families

Families are kept informed and welcomed to visit. If anything significant changes with a resident's wellbeing or routine, we reach out promptly rather than waiting for a scheduled check-in.

Privacy and Dignity

Residents' personal information is handled with care in accordance with Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. We treat all personal circumstances with discretion and respect.

Ongoing Staff Development

Care companions attend regular training sessions covering communication, elderly wellbeing, and first aid procedures. This is not a box-ticking exercise — it shapes how they work each day.

Our Expertise

Community Living, Carefully Done

Residential homes for older adults in Hong Kong vary considerably in size, approach, and atmosphere. Sampan Cove occupies a specific place in that range: a small, community-oriented home that prioritises familiarity over facility count. For families who want their relative to feel known rather than managed, that distinction carries weight.

Aberdeen as a neighbourhood suits this kind of living well. The promenade runs close. The market is nearby. The streets have a settled, walkable character that suits older residents who value their independence but appreciate having support at hand. Residents at Sampan Cove do not need to go far to feel connected to a larger world.

Daily life at the home is shaped by what residents themselves enjoy. Morning walks attract those who like fresh air and movement. Craft afternoons draw in others. Some residents prefer a quieter day, sitting in the communal area with a newspaper or simply watching the comings and goings. All of these are equally welcome.

For families making enquiries, the first step is usually a visit. Speaking with staff, seeing the rooms, and understanding the daily rhythm gives a much clearer sense of whether Sampan Cove is a good fit than any written description could. We welcome those conversations and take them at whatever pace suits the family.
